KWorld ranked second in NOVA Channel Award

The rising popularity of notebooks has been the driving force for the increasing demand for HiHD and portability. Retailers in 3C markets have witnessed the trend that the USB TV tuner sticks have been gradually replacing the traditional TV box as the mainstream. There are two TV main tuning systems in the market: analogy TV and digital TV. Normally, the ones with lower prices can only receive either the analog TV or digital TV. Currently, there are also the hybrid ones with higher prices that can receive both analog and digital TV (not simultaneously, rather one at a time).

In the present, prices of LCD TVs have become more and more affordable, as it saves the hassle of connecting to PCs. In fact, it may eventually drive traditional TV boxes that are connected to LCD monitors out of the market if these tuners are not built with recording functions. In contrast, the USB TV tuners, in the size of a USB flash disk, have become highly appealing to consumers as more and more people nowadays own notebook computers. The USB TV tuners are so portable and they can turn laptops into personal TV sets. In addition, these USB ones come with recording functions so that users can schedule the TV show recording for later viewing.

The NOVA Channel Award has played an influential role in Taiwan’s retail market for electronics products, and it has annually held channel awards to compliment the brands that have established decent sales records and brand image. According to the surveys done this year for the TV tuner market, AVerMedia still occupies the number one spot in NOVA Channel Award, with a proportion of 29.77%. However, this spot has been challenged by the second on the list – KWorld, which has made an 18.04% leap from last year. KWorld is currently taking up a portion of 29.69%, not only took away the number two spot that Compro had always occupied last year, but also dramatically shortened the gap with AVerMedia (KWorld 29.69% : AVerMedia 29.77%).
